Symantec - Makers of Norton Anti-Virus and Internet Security products. They have a good reputation for providing reliable software. Also well know for there system tools software such as the backup program Ghost and the System Works utility suite.

AVG Free Anti Virus - A free for home use version of the AVG anti virus product from Grisoft. An excellet option if your home PC doesn't have any internet protection. Combine it with Spybot and ZoneAlarm free for addition free internet security.
Spybot Search & Destroy - Spybot is an excellent free anti-spyware product worth downloading if you have no anti spyware protection and an internet connection.
Lavasoft - Makers of the Ad-Aware anti-spyware products. Lavasoft offer comercial products and also a free for home use version of their anti-spyware software.
Zone Labs - Make internet security products. Most notable the free for home use firewall program ZoneAlarm free. Their comercial firewall product is also regarded as one of the best available. For 2006 they introduced an all in one solution with virus, spyware and firewall protection.

Google - Probably the most comprehensive search engine in the world. If your looking for anything google is a great start. Perhaps the hardest to use for novice users as the results are often very broad.
Yahoo - Probably the second most comprehensive search engine in the world. Yahoo is very popular as it offers a lot more than just search results.
MSN Search - Microsoft's own search engine, used mainly by MSN devotees
Alta vista - another of the giants of the search engine world. Perhaps more popular with America than the UK but still a great resource for technical queries.
Lycos - Like yahoo this engine also has a lot of its own content to offer.
Webcrawler - A popular meta search engine. Search results are based on Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask Jeves, About, Looksmart and more
Clusty - Another meta search engine. Offers a better solution to categorising your search results form many of the top search engines
Dog Pile - Another of the big meta search engines. Offers great results from many of the other search engines.
Maps
Multimap - Excellent for finding anywhere in the UK, Europe or the world. Excellent aerial photos of Britain.
Streetmap - Another great way to find a map for anywhere in the UK
Google Earth - Explore the whole world with this 3d model and stunningly detailed satellite imagery. Pick your destination and explore.
